Beyond A Care Job – Featuring Rachel (Recover Care – Healthcare & Rehab Center)

This is an entry to recognize a top caregiver in the industry, submitted by D’Ana at Recover Care – Healthcare & Rehab Center in Kansas. Please join us is recognizing a care job well done.

Rachel is a CMA working primarily on our memory care unit. Rachel is empathetic and kind and this has made all of the difference in her ability to communicate with our elders with advanced dementia. What makes her one of the best at what she does is her ability to see through the dementia to the person. She can relate with her elders and shows them love and compassion everyday. The people she cares for will seek out her company and recognize her as their “person”. She is able to bring out the light in our elders with her laughter and jokes. You can always tell Rachel is working because of the warm inviting atmosphere she creates.

We have an elder on her unit right now that has had recent struggles with her new surroundings. Rachel has made it a point to ensure she’s cared for and comfortable and goes out of her way to spend time with her on her shift. Rachel will step in when the resident is upset so that she can help deescalate the situation and provide comfort and safety. Her leadership role on the unit cannot be understated. Rachel’s ability to lead the CNAs on the unit has benefited the elders and the facility as a whole.

Rachel has been a mentor for many of the employees at Plaza West over the years and I can say that when I was a baby nurse, I went to Rachel with all kinds of questions on resident care. Rachel is welcoming and it makes it easy for new employees to talk with her about questions and concerns. This openness has made her an asset for training and ensuring we can retain quality staff.

Rachel is someone that I go to if I need help troubleshooting careplanning issues or interventions because her knowledge of the people she cares for is deep and she can provide insight into their lives like no one else can.

She’s been a fixture at Plaza West for more than 15 years and continues to show loyalty and dependability everyday. I wish I could give her the moon but in lieu of that, please consider her for this award
